80s Trivia Question #4 Movie Trivia!
Posted on July 24th, 2007 at 7:58 am by Adam

ferris.jpg

This is another two part question for 100 points! You get 50 points if you answer only one.

Part I:
In the scene above from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, what is Ferris singing into the shower head?

Hint: It was used several times during the movie:
-In this shower scene
-Rooney hums it when ringing the Bueller’s doorbell.
-It’s also sung during the parade.

Director John Hughes absolutely hated the tune as a child: “I remember this was the most awful song when I was growing up. Every time it came on, I just wanted to scream.”

Part II:

By what Alias does Ferris Bueller get into Chez Luis?

Did you know…

the 1986 film Pretty in Pink was NOT directed by John Hughes?

In fact it was directed by Howard Deutch!

In the 80s John Hughes gained notoriety by producing a string of high quality teen and young-adult drama/comedies (aka Dramad-ies) that included:

-Uncle Buck (1989)
-She’s Having a Baby (1988)
-Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987)
-Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)
-Weird Science (1985)
-The Breakfast Club (1985)
& Sixteen Candles (1984)

One might describe his directorial stardom by using an relational analogy such as this: Hughes is to 80s Pop Culture Films as Hitchcock is to Suspense Films.

Many people lump Pretty in Pink into the list of Hughes’ directorial achievements when in fact it was not directed by him. But don’t go thinking you’re completely wrong yet! Hughes wrote the script! And with Molly Ringwald making an appearance, one can only assume that he had something to do with the casting as well.

John Hughes writing credits include (but are not limited to) the following:

-Curly Sue (1991)
-Career Opportunities (1991)
-Home Alone (1990)
-Christmas Vacation (1989)
-Uncle Buck (1989)
-The Great Outdoors (1988)
-She’s Having a Baby (1988)
-Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987)
-Some Kind of Wonderful (1987)
-Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)
-Pretty in Pink (1986)
-Weird Science (1985)
-European Vacation (1985)
-The Breakfast Club (1985)
-Sixteen Candles (1984)
-Vacation (1983)
-Mr. Mom (1983)

Happy 80s Factoidal Tuesday!

80s Trivia Question #3 Video Snapshot!
Posted on July 23rd, 2007 at 2:10 pm by Adam

OK, this one’s for 100 points. You might be asking by now, “How does he decide the point value?” Well, did you ever play 500 with the football when you were a kid? You arbitrarily picked a point value and threw it up in the air. When too many people were tied or close to winning you’d call out “FIVE HUNDRED!” just to see how hard all the kids would work to catch up or beat the current winner. I don’t want to divulge too much but that’s a lot like my points system here.

Now that’s it’s been answered:

the clues were:

80s Trivia Question #2
Posted on June 21st, 2007 at 2:09 pm by Adam

Can you name this band?

OK, this one is a little easier so it’s only worth 50 points. Formed in Pennsylvania, this infamous band moved to LA and brought the term “Glam-Metal” to it’s knees.

80s Trivia Question #1
Posted on June 21st, 2007 at 7:21 am by Adam

Can you name this band?

OK, I’ll give you a hand. Though they brood like Depeche Mode in this photo they’re not from the U.K. They’re from a land down under and have a Minnesota connection. In the U.S. they had one hit. Reply in the comments, for 100 points and your name on the leader board–name the band and the connection! 50 points will be awarded if you answer only half the question.
